Web Conferencing

My Web Conference

My first web conference experience took place on anymeeting.com.  Signing up to join anymeeting.com was easy and the site was very user-friendly.  I am looking forward to exploring more of the meeting options available on the site.  Web conferencing makes it easy and affordable to speak to friends, classmates, or family from long distances.

The Insight of Cloud Computing

The journey of using the knowledge I gained about cloud computing to educate my fellow students opened my eyes to the future of cloud computing.  I look back to where we were in the computing age with "chunky" computers, and having to save everything on the hard drive.  We've come a long way to now being able to access all of our information from a remote location, even while we're on vacation!  Just remember, the best of conveniences can possibly have the worst of consequences...government access to all stored information at remote data centers.

The Ease of Emails

The Ease of Emails

Sending and receiving emails is one of the most user-friendly tools available in the modern world.  Emails allow individuals the convenience of quickly sending a mail message to others, the ability to communicate with several people at once, and different email services provide tools which allow you to link events or friend's information to other tools such as calendars.  The ability to share photos with friends and family is also a modern convenience of using emails. I've been working with different email interfaces for a long time, but it was nice to have Email 101 as a refresher.

My Truth About Wikis...

My Truth About Wikis...

What is a blog?
A blog is a tool used for personal expression by individuals on the web to chronologically
list ideas and links about various groups of topics. Most individuals update their blog sites
frequently and belong to a host of blog communities.

What in the World is a Wiki?
A wiki is a website that allows visitors to use a simple web form to update information as quickly as they need to, at any time. Wikis can be used by small organizational groups or
be updated at anytime, by anyone, like Wikipedia.

Uncovering the Truth hidden in Wikis...
For the sake of argument, let's just say I did my own exploration of the popular wiki site,
Wikipedia.  My first discovery was the 'Edit' feature, which allows visitors to add or change information previously submitted by others.  For someone like myself who has only visited Wikipedia for the purpose of gaining knowledge, this feature simply downgrades (if not diminishes) the credibility of the site.  I'm also a little disturbed by the content organization
of the revision history.  I give credit where credit is due, and the tracking system used for
those visitors that edit information is credible.  However, the organization of the web page's content is a little difficult to follow.  My suggestion would be to re-format the web page content
so that the text is aligned and easier to read, and post the edited information for all visitors.

Final Thoughts...
Wiki can be useful for different people...for
different circumstances.  I am, however, a
member of a generation that believes all
decisions can still be made by just picking
up the telephone or having a good old
fashioned face-to-face brainstorming session.
